A 41-year-old Phoenix man who was formerly a Sergeant in the Phoenix police department may lose his certification due to a DUI conviction on his record from last year.

The man was in Surprise, Arizona when he was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving last March. He had his two young children in the car, ages five and seven, when he was arrested. He had been swerving through lanes and almost crashed into a curb when he finally came to a complete stop. He failed a field sobriety test as well as a blood test and admitted to having about nine shots of liquor before getting behind the wheel.

He pleaded guilty to the charges and spent 10 days in jail last October and also has several fines to pay and community service hours to accomplish. He was fired from his position at the police department in August 2011 and now could potentially lose his certification in the state of Arizona. A panel of board members will be responsible for determining his future with the police department.

Please contact the Arizona DUI lawyers of Thompson & Volquardsen, P.C. by calling 602-510-9999, if you or someone you know has been charged with driving under the influence in the state of Arizona.

When someone is convicted of driving under the influence in the state of Arizona, they are required to install a DUI Interlock device in their car for the next year.

The driver must blow into this device every time they want to turn the engine on and if any alcohol is detected by the system, the engine will not start. Arizona Senator, Linda Gray, voiced her opinion that one year of using this device is too long. She made the proposition that first-time DUI offenders only need to use the interlock device for six months after their conviction.

This new time frame was put into place on January 1, 2012 and will only apply to individuals who are convicted of driving under the influence in 2012.

A Phoenix man is facing charges of driving while intoxicated after he crashed into another vehicle while in New York.

The man was traveling on Northern Boulevard in Onondaga County when a car pulled out in front of him. He struck the vehicle in which a 17-year-old was driving. The teenager was cut from her car and then immediately flown to a hospital. Three days after the car accident occurred, the 17-year-old died from her injuries.

An investigation into the car accident found that the man had a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. He is currently in jail being held on a $1,000 bond. His next court hearing will take place on January 5, 2012.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.

According to 2,300 high school juniors and seniors, New Year’s Eve weekend is the most hazardous weekend to drink and drive yet that is the weekend that most of them had admitted to doing it.

The study was completed by the student organization, Students Against Destructive Decisions, along with Liberty Mutual in order to determine the most dangerous weekend in relation to teenagers drinking and then driving. The participants had a choice between several events including New Year’s Eve, prom night, graduation night and homecoming.

The teenagers admitted that they would more than likely think twice about getting behind the wheel after having been drinking if one of their passengers asked them to reconsider.

A list has just been made public by Insurance.com stating the top 10 cities with the most drunk driving citations between November 1, 2010 and October 31, 2011. The data that was collected was from the largest 20 cities in the United States.

Four different cities in California made the list for the most citations. Those cities were Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and San Jose. The police officers throughout California are more in tune with driving safety due to the high volume of cars occupying California highways daily.

Phoenix, Arizona was included in the list as well as Fort Worth, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Charlotte and Columbus.

Snobar Cocktails has developed a product that will be debut in the state of Arizona. Alcohol-infused popsicles as well as ice cream will be offered by the company.

These new creations will contain the same amount of alcohol as a cocktail, which could be up to 14-percent depending on the flavor. A variety of flavors will be available including margarita and cosmopolitan.

Critics of the product believe that children could easily get their hands on these desserts as well. But, according to the creators, the popsicles will be a perfect addition to any holiday party this season.

It is important to eat these treats responsibly and to not operate a vehicle after consumption because a DUI could be a direct result.

“Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” is the new motto from the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force during this holiday season.

Risk of drunk drivers increases over the holiday season, and the task force made it clear that there will be zero tolerance. Every Friday and Saturday night, there will be 30 extra police officers on duty to watch for impaired drivers. In 2009, Arizona had 800 fatal crashes.

The Tucson Police Department are unveiling a new vehicle called the Impaired Driver Enforcement Vehicle designed specifically to run sobriety tests including a breathalyzer, blood tests, and evaluations.

According to Chris Andreacola of Tucson Police, ”This makes it convenient for officers, they can respond to this van and conduct entire investigations at a command post location, rather than having to transport suspects to different locations, wasting both time and money.”
