Arizona DUI Education Programs

A person convicted of DUI may be required to attend additional alcohol education or an intoxicated driving school. These mandatory education sessions reinforce the basic requirements of the law in terms of intoxicated driving. Students are supposed to learn about their mistakes, finding ways to avoid future incidents. However, only certain charges require attendance of these classes.

DUI Education for Different Convictions

According to Arizona’s DUI sentencing laws, only certain types of convictions require a person to go through the DUI education system. Generally speaking, the more serious DUI convictions will make these classes mandatory. Of course, there may be a sentencing option to attend these classes even if they are not mandatory, which can work in a person’s favor in terms of dealing with future employers or school admissions.

The following requirements are put in place for a DUI conviction:

  • First-time misdemeanor DUI: education is not required
  • Repeat offenses of DUI: education is required
  • Felony DUI, including aggravated DUI: education is required

These educational sessions are occasionally coupled with mandatory community service sentences, both punishments comprising rehabilitation activities associated with criminal punishment.
