Ineffective Ways to Reduce BAC
To avoid driving while intoxicated, a person may try to lower their BAC through a variety of tactics. These remedies are often passed along through urban legends and personal belief more than actual fact. This is, in part, because there is only one factual cure for intoxication: time. A person may process alcohol faster due to a range of different factors, but the passage of time is the only definitive way to ensure that an individual’s BAC will be reduced.

Useless Remedies for Intoxication
Many people may recognize that they have had too much to drink and may search for some sort of remedy to bring down their level of intoxication. According to these individuals, these solutions can increase their body’s rate of alcohol processing. However, these remedies are not scientifically proven. A person may wrongfully turn to the following to reduce their level of intoxication:
- Eating after drinking, especially greasy foods or bread
- Drinking water
- Drinking juices or taking vitamins
- Exercising
- Drinking coffee
In particular, a person may not feel as intoxicated if they turn to caffeine. However, this substance will only increase a person’s alertness. It does not actually help the body to breakdown or eliminate alcohol from the bloodstream, and therefore it fails to lower BAC.
